Since I just got over the flu, I’ve decided to devote this weekend to cross training rather than a long run. I ran yesterday for the first time since becoming sick, and it wasn’t my best. My legs felt great, but my energy was low and I was out of breath very quickly. Obviously, it’s going to take a few days to get back to 100%. SO! I’m saving my 18 mile training run for next weekend. However, today I was up early to try out Cardio Barre!
Cardio Barre is a newish fitness studio in San Francisco, and touts its workouts as the newest celebrity craze. The classes combine elements from dance, ballet, Pilates, and good old-fashioned aerobics. I was able purchase a 10 class card from Groupon for $49. Today was my first class and it was so fun!
The room is set up like a carpeted ballet studio. The one hour workouts are lead by a microphone-ed instructor and synchronized with Top 40 dance music. I took the Intro/Beginner class today and I was worked from head to toe!
I have 9 more classes left to use by August 11, and I will definitely try to use them all! I don’t know if it’s something I will want to invest in after my class card expires, but it IS tons of fun and a nice way to mix up my cross training!
I have also devoted this weekend to spending too much money on new workout gear. Damn you, Victoria’s Secret Semi-Annual Sale:
I was able to get 4 new sports bras for less than $19.99 a piece! Couldn’t afford to NOT buy them, right??
Lastly, today is a special day for me: It is my 3 year anniversary in San Francisco! Three years ago, Emmi and I packed up my little Civic and headed to the Golden State. We arrive in San Francisco at 1:30 am on June 21, 2011. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss my family and friends, but my life has changed so much since moving here. One of the biggest and best things to happen to me was running the San Francisco Half Marathon in 2012, my FIRST race! I became hooked. I’ve now run a total of 8 half marathons, 1 full marathon and I will run my second full on July 27th.
Something to celebrate for sure! Where’s the champagne? 🙂
