Running on Vacation

Happy Friday everyone!

Tomorrow is the first of day my 11 day hiatus from work aka vacation time!! I have 2 days off in San Francisco so I can get all of my packing/shopping/laundry/running in before my boyfriend, Rich, and I take off for Florida on Sunday night. It’s going to be a 9 day trip full of beaches, family, weddings, jiu-jitsu tournaments, Disney World and/or Universal Studios and I can…not…wait! I’ve never been to Florida before, so I’m super excited. I AM in the middle of marathon training, which is a little cause for concern-with all of the goings-on, how am I going to maintain my training schedule?? I am going to do my best to set alarms and get up just a little bit earlier to get my running in, but being on vacation I know this may not be easy. I’m going to give it my best shot and hopefully stay on the wagon!

Which leaves me with my next order of business-my blog. I’ve been a little hit-or-miss when it comes to blogging as-is lately because my computer is not functional at the moment. So I steal Rich’s when I can 🙂 I probably won’t be able to post until I get back (I am not talented enough to create a good post using my iPhone app), so if you want to follow my vacation and running exploits, you can follow me on Instagram or Twitter (and I will follow you back!).

Speaking of being hit-or miss…I haven’t properly thanked Cat over at Cat’s Mewsings for nominating me for a Liebster Award! The running community is so crazy supportive of one another, and I’ve found such a home in the blog world with tons of other running bloggers. I feel so honored that she thought of me for this award! Now go check out her site!

Well, I’m off to work for the evening…Let’s get this weekend started, shall we?

  1. Oh, enjoy your holiday! I often find that training while I’m on holidays is actually easier, because I have more time – at least in theory. 😉 For me, the key is to make sure that training remains a priority, so to plan all my runs beforehand and not to compromise them. It sounds obsessive, but it works!

    • Thank you! I can’t wait to go! The last time I was on vacation I went to Hawaii, and it was a lot easier for me to train. However, at that time I was running shorter distances. I’m mostly worried about finding time for my 12 miler next weekend! My boyfriend and I talked about a general schedule for the next week and a half so I think I will be able to pre-plan my training days. Thanks for the advice! 🙂

  2. Happy Vacation!! I’ve been to Florida more than any other state in the US – my parents are Disney fanatics so I grew up on it. It’s definitely more fun as an adult. If you go to the Magic Kingdom get a Dole Whip in Adventureland!

  3. Have a really great trip! I always cut myself some slack with training while on vacation, knowing that not much fitness will be lost if it’s a short vacation. And then I’m REALLY proud of myself if I do actually stick to my training. I guess I should work on making it a priority… maybe one day. I hope Florida treats you well!

    • Thank you! I agree, it’s only a week so if I miss a run I’m sure I will be just fine 🙂 I know I can fit in the 3-6 milers in, I’m just worried about a 12 mile run next weekend. I may just have to re-arrange my training plan just a little bit. I can’t wait to go! 🙂

  4. Yay! You’ll have a blast! Universal theme parks are amazing! Such great rides! And of course Disney is always fun. My sis works at Animal Kingdom. She also runs marathons and works at a running store part time. If you want running routes – I can put you in contact with her. If you’re staying at the resorts, I hear they have some trails around them if you ask.

    • Oh wow thank you! We are staying with my boyfriend’s friends in Orlando, but I don’t know where they are in relation to the parks. We are only there for 2 nights though, so I think we are going to have to choose 1 of the 2 parks for next Wednesday. As much as I love Disney, we are leaning toward Universal because DW has so many parks I feel like we need more time. What would you suggest?? 🙂

      • Universal might be your best bet then. It has the City Walk (free) which has a bunch of bars/restaurants (margaritaville). The two universal parks border it. You can choose one park or pay more for both. Islands has the Harry potter stuff which is amazing. Also the Spider-Man and hulk rides are bad-A. The other park has the Simpsons stuff (incl a sweet ride). Also the transformers ride, men in black, a sweet roller coaster, minions ride, shreck ride, and a nice Irish pub.

      • Thanks for all the info! We are definitely going to Universal. I reeealy want to see the Harry Potter world, and there is nothing like it on the West Coast yet. I can’t wait, I’m so excited!
