Running, Wining and Dining

This week I ran my first miles for the Around the World Running Blog relay! If you don’t know, the ATWRBR is a virtual relay race arranged by fellow running blogger, Kyla. My goal is to run 160 miles…er..257.495 kilometers total in the months of March and April. This is perfect timing and great motivation for me as I start training for my second marathon! So far, I’m pre-conditioning and I’m off to a great start…

The weather was a bit manic-it went from warm and muggy to cold and breezy several times during my run.

After my run I thought I pulled my left hamstring. I didn’t feel anything immediately, but later in the evening I started to feel a slight burning sensation when I sat down. I decided on giving my legs a few days rest so I cancelled training for a couple of days.

Once I start hitting double digit miles my appetite goes in to overdrive. While grilled chicken and veggies are a staple of my diet, after the 10 miler my appetite was insatiable! So my boyfriend and I went toΒ Grub for some grub:

Popcorn GrubFood

And wine of course…

I let my hamstring rest for a few days and gave it a test on Thursday. I ran 4 miles and everything felt fine!

My work schedule changed a little this week so I had to rearrange my training schedule. Friday ended up being a rest day for me AND I did not have to go to work. I took advantage of the time off and planned a brunch with some of my friends! We went toΒ Mama’sΒ for some some cocktails and breakfast!

Smoked Salmon Scramble and a Grapefruit Mimos…magnifique!

Who doesn’t love brunch? It makes daytime drinking classy πŸ™‚

After brunch and bidding adieu to the ladies, I headed over to meet my boyfriend. He works part-time at a restaurant so that he can accommodate is crazy MMA training schedule. The wine director of the restaurant happened to be there and he hooked me up with a partial bottle of sauvignon blanc!

I was the envy of everyone at the bar

He also sent me home with a bottle of pinot…

Free wine…I love San Francisco!

On Saturday I planned to run 8-10 miles. I got a really late start on my run and cut it down to 8 hoping to make it to my 4:30 yoga class, but alas I didn’t. I have to say though, I’m getting to a point where 8 miles feels fairly easy again.

For the week, I logged a total of 22 miles or 35.4 km for the ATWRBR. Monday morning I will be back at it, and I’m hoping for another 22 mile week!

Happy Sunday!

  1. Awesome Jamie! I’ve been tapering and racing, but doing my bit for ATWRBR too – it’s so nice to see it all add up, isn’t it? I love when longer training runs start to feel normal when you are upping the miles – it’s a lovely indication that the training is working, both mentally and physically! Good luck with the marathon training. πŸ˜‰

      • I ran the Inverness Half Marathon yesterday and ran my socks off there. Now I’ve got the Rome Marathon in two weeks – but I won’t race it per se, just doddle my way around. πŸ˜‰

      • Awesome, I just read your recap πŸ™‚ The Rome Marathon is my dream race!! I’m actually planning to run it next year, I can’t wait to hear about it!! Take lots of pictures please! πŸ˜‰

    • Thanks! Haha I wish but not every place. I have to say though I’ve enjoyed quite a bit of free wine and food since moving here! There has to be some incentive for the high cost of living, right??

  2. Smoked salmon scramble?! That sounds incredible. I am glad you are feeling better. Isn’t is great when distances that used to seem intimidating become easy? I think 8 is my limit right now, anything more than that feels a bit more difficult to complete.

    • Yes it was amazing! It is crazy to think back to when I first started running and I thought 4, 5 or 6 miles was ridiculous, and now it’s just another training run πŸ™‚ 8 is a good number for me too, once I hit double digits I start to drag a little bit. But it’s getting better!
