Today’s Run: 10 miles 1 hour 29 minutes
I finally feel like I’m ready to take on the San Francisco Half Marathon! After (what I like to call )Marathon March (my first full marathon, followed by a half 2 weeks later) I was drained and felt a serious lull in my capabilities as a runner. Little by little I’ve recouped, re-hydrated and now I’m back in the swing of things. This was my first run in the double-digit miles since March and I’m feeling confident again (go me!)
Today I ran an out and back course in Golden Gate Park- one of my favorite places in San Francisco. It’s a huge park right in the middle of the city full of forest-sized trees, waterfalls, lakes, trails, museums, golf courses, buffalo, gardens, birds, runners, tourists…I could go on and on. There are unpaved trails as well as roads and sidewalks to run on; It’s a runner’s haven from stoplights, crowds and noisy traffic.
I felt great for most of the run, save for the last 2 miles. Most of the end was slightly uphill and my energy levels crashed. I need to be smart and just start fueling again on longer runs. I can’t stomach GU packets, so I normally train with dried fruit. Overall though, I had a really great day exploring the park again and running like the ceiling couldn’t hold me.
As a reward for my hard work today I treated myself to some pricey juice:
kale, pineapple, lemon and ginger
This is one of my favorite (non-alcoholic) beverages. I get this at Sidewalk juice in the Mission District; it’s called “The Jake Shields.” Coincidentally, my boyfriend is on the same MMA team as the fighter this drink is named after 😀
…I think I’ve maybe earned an adult beverage this evening as well..cheers!
